Dr. Lott completed his undergraduate degree at Mississippi State University, finishing magna cum laude. He then earned his medical degree at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine, followed by his residency in medicine at the University of Tennessee, while also doing graduate studies in the electrical engineering department at Memphis State University. He completed his fellowship in cardiology at the University of Tennessee Center for the Health Sciences, followed by a fellowship in cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology. He then completed a fellowship in cardiac electrophysiology at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.

He is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, clinical cardiac electrophysiology and advanced heart failure / transplant cardiology. He also has special competency in cardiac pacing from the Heart Rhythm Society.

He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a member of the American College of Physicians and the Southeast Lipid Association.
